Guinea Confidential: June

Guinea's Monthly Lifestyle Blog

June

June is such a glorious month, it heralds long drawn out days, warm evenings and a diary full of fabulous events. So before things get too hectic, take a few minutes to enjoy this month's Guinea Confidential for inspiration when you have some downtime.

Rest, Read, Relax

This recommendation is a bit of a throwback, as it was published some years ago, but it had raves reviews at the time - and for good reason - so if you haven't read it already, Charlotte our marketing assistant is most insistent it would make a fabulous beach read.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid is all about heart break and scandal and I must admit, here at the Guinea Confidential, we are all intrigued.

Following the aging, reclusive and enigmatic movie star Evelyn Hugo, as she finally reveals all - the glamour and dark underbelly of the movie industry, her turbulent personal life, her loves, her losses and her secrets.

It is BBQ season and some of the Guinea Confidential team, have already braved the elements to light up the charcoal and get grilling, but it is so easy to fall into the same old habits of cooking the familiar sausages or burgers - safe and classic choices - but it is so easy to elevate these humble basics into something mouth-watering.

Why not try a honey and whole grain mustard glaze on the sausages or make a burger from scratch with caramelised onions, herbs and spices - why not try a different mince other than the traditional beef?

However a BBQ can all too quickly become very meat heavy, so why not try a delicious refreshing recipe, such as this one by Jamie Oliver for Griddled vegetables & feta with tabbouleh.

Wonderful as a main or side dish, it really perks up the palate and cuts through the rich and dense meat elements.

Guinea's Must See, Must Do

The event we love most of all here at Guinea HQ, in June, is Royal Ascot. What's not to love? Fabulous fashion, magnificent horses and Royal watching.

If you are in need of a stunning fascinator or hat, look no further than Rebecca Jones, who has an exquisite range of styles for all occasions, not just racing!

The Guinea team love her millinery so much, we styled her stunning navy blue headband with roses, for a wedding guest look, below!

If you find yourself at a loose end, or the weather has put a dampener on BBQ plans, why not settle down and indulge in a spot of binge watching, and we would highly recommend Feud: Capote Vs The Swans. Rowan in our order fulfilment team loved it!

This series explores the real life events which led to the deterioration of Truman Capote's health and social standing, caused by his betrayal - and consequential break down in relationships - with his closet female friends, referred to as his Swans.

Set against the backdrop of New York High Society in the 60's and 70s, this is an glamourous yet often time caustic watch, with some excellent performances.

The Guinea team absolutely loved the Lucy dress last year and were thrilled when it was decided it was to make a comeback in an all new print for this summer!

We absolutely adore this navy and cream leopard print and the fact it is made of 100% silk, it means it is super breathable and cool.

The delicate mother of pearl buttons are a understated touch of bling and it is ideal for holidays in the sun, or as we have styled it here, perfect for a picnic.

This dress is so versatile it can be dressed down for a casual everyday look or dressed up with heels and a fascinator for a garden wedding.
