How to Dress like Royalty at the Races: Royal Ascot Fashion

Here at Guinea head office, the Guinea team are in complete agreement, that in June there is no more fabulous event, than Royal Ascot. Who can forget Audrey Hepburn, in My Fair Lady, looking regal and magnificent in her black and white, Cecil Beaton ensemble. If anybody should know how to make a woman look like royalty, it is Sir Cecil Beaton, who famously photographed the late Queen in numerous fabulous photographs- who cannot instantly recall the majestic Coronation photograph he took of Elizabeth II.

Famous for its fashion, as much as its racing, Royal Ascot is an event steeped in history and renown for style and elegance. With the help of the Guinea Team, you too can have your own Eliza Doolittle moment, and feel royally amazing for the racing event of the season, using the nation’s lovely Royal ladies for style inspiration.

Statement Colour

Go bold in a statement shade or colour palette.

If you like to keep things understated and elegant, opt for a single colour palette, like our stunning Princess of Wales; who looks impeccable in colour blocking, lace, or a simple, classic polka dot print with accessorise to match.

Who says you can’t be matchy matchy?!?!

However, complimentary shades, also look delightful, like Zara Tindall, in cream, blush, pale pink and grey.

As for length; midi, maxi, tea length, or even a jumpsuit; such as the Duchess of Edinburgh, anything goes for Royal Ascot fashion, as long as the style suits your proportions and the dress code.

Floral

Whether it is an overblown, or delicate floral print, what can be more glorious in the summer. Bright pops of colour are an impactful summer dress choice.

Our own Guinea Lucy floral dress is made of pure silk, in the eye-catching shades of pink and red, with hints of purple, which means you can accessorise with your fav colour combinations.

Classic Coats

Unfortunately, British weather cannot always be relied upon to be glorious sunshine, but investing in a timeless coat means you can continue to be super chic and turn heads, and who was more iconic than our dear, departed Queen, for making a coat her style choice, year upon year at Ascot.

A coat dress can bridge that awkward gap between light weight jacket and a robust winter coat; potentially not warm enough or far too warm. Let the garment speak for itself and enhance it with your choice of accessories.

If a classic cut coat, with flattering seams, is more your style, why not consider a cotton velvet, ideal for summer, and Guinea has a multitude of designs and colours to pick from. Pastels, or jewel tones with more drama, will compliment any outfit.

Whether it is a wool trench coat, long velvet coat or flirty knee length, investing in a classic design will keep you stylish season after season.

Accessories

Heels, wedges, flats or boots, choose a style which works for you and compliments your style and the weather. Top tip: matching the colour of your heels to your skin tone will elongate legs.

As for hats, no style is off limits. Full crown coverage, fascinators, head bands, there are limitless options to flatter face shape or hair colour. With the right design, you can wear any style, at any age.

A spacious clutch or shoulder bag with a long strap, is essential for not only attaching your course passes to, but for keeping your winnings in also!

Here at Guinea, we aim for you to look effortless and elegant, exude confidence in our classic designs, and always feel fabulous and feminine.

Stay regal.
