GUINEA MAKES THE CUT: JUDITH CUTTING, FOUNDER & CREATIVE DIRECTOR

Emma Westwood

Guinea Team Blogger

Interview with Founder and Creative Director of Guinea: Judith Cutting in her own words.

I have a strong family heritage in the world of equestrian sports going back over several generations, and it is undoubtedly a contributing factor in the design and style of the clothes we make for Best of British brand Guinea.

The way riders sit and hold their posture is so elegant it’s no wonder that great designers like Ralph Lauren, Hermes and Gucci all reference equestrian sports in their designs. Sharp tailoring has always been a key focal point for equestrian clothing where elegance and practicality merge perfectly. Design and cut is something that I am absolutely passionate about and will not compromise on, even if it means much awaited samples have to be sent back, pieces re-designed and the whole process is delayed. It is essential in our design process that a garment flatters as much in a size 6 or 8 as in a size 16.

Many of Guinea’s iconic coats and jackets have very specialist and distinctive design features to minimize the waist and other areas women can find problematic or perhaps be self-conscious of. These key details are what turn a jacket or a coat into a really flattering item and we are going to cover how to dress to minimize problem areas in this blog series Guinea Makes the Cut. Ultimately all Guinea items are not only beautiful and of the highest quality but they are designed and cut in a way that will flatter women of all shapes and sizes.

You can see this as soon as you try on one of our products, the Guinea Puffer Gilet for example is designed with the perfect stretch, dipped hem with specially designed and positioned side panels that make it an ultra flattering, slimming go-to piece. With faux or fur collar options for instant luxury it is a piece that can take you from walking the dog to lunch or supper out. I am never without mine, especially as you can wear it in any season and use it to layer up.

What next for the Guinea Makes the Cut series?

In the forthcoming blog series Guinea Makes the Cut, we will explain how to use style details to flatter your shape, why a jacket style like our military Mayfair  jacket flatters the waist and is specifically shaped to fit! Ultimately, with our products you get a beautiful and elegant silhouette whatever you’re size.

Creativity is key at Guinea and we pride ourselves on the design of every item which is why we have such wonderful loyal customers across the globe…in a nutshell I’m fanatical about beautiful tailoring and design and I love that our clothes help make the wearer feel and look their best self. Nothing makes me happier and I’m continually striving to put this into new products and developing the Guinea London brand.

Shhhh... just between you and me, what's New in at Guinea London
