Guinea's Monthly Lifestyle Blog
Summer
The sun is out and Guinea HQ is in full summer events mode, which means we have a lot of lovely things planned - and we hope you do to!
However it is always nice, to take a few minutes to yourself - that doesn't involve planning activities for the school holidays, packing suitcases, figuring out menus for family get togethers or having doubts about the outfit you have picked for that special occasion - give yourself a moment to breath and relax!
And what better way to do that than with the Guinea Confidential Summer Edition.
Rest, Read, Relax
The summer months are perfect for books which you can easily dip in and out of when waiting for flights or on the beach.
Now, some like nothing better becoming absorbed in a vintage crime, or what is hot on booktok/bestseller list when sunbathing, but this was a recommendation to us for something a little different.
A French Fling for the Golden Gals by Judy Leigh features refreshingly mature female leads, who go to show you are never too old to start over, or have new adventures.
This novel, set in Brittany, promises to envelope us in all the decadence and romance France has to offer.
If you enjoy this book, Judy Leigh has a back catalogue of novels where the protagonists are proving they are still in their prime well after retirement age - and may this be an inspiration to us all!
Seasonally Scrummy
Summer is intrinsically associated with barbeques, and no matter how delightfully social they are, they do require an awful lot of prep work.
However, another super social supper idea, but a lot less smoke involved, is tapas or some variation of.
Whether you go traditionally Spanish, or use it as a springboard for ideas for your own sharing board, the possibilities are endless.
This recipe for Whipped Feta and Calabrian Chilli-Honey Butter would make a delightful addition. Served with warm bread, chilled olives, or radish and tomatoes from the garden, this creamy base with a hint of heat is bound to statisfy when served with a crisp white wine.
Guinea's Must See, Must Do
Something a little bit different for our recommendation this summer, because if like us, you have been unfortunate enough to miss out on tickets to this production of Les Liaisons Dangereuses, do not despair, as this production will be screened in cinemas as part of National Theatre Live.
Here at Guinea Confidential HQ, some of our team, already have their tickets booked at the local cinema, as we cannot wait to see Aidan Turner and Lesley Manville - two costume drama stalwarts - in this updated production where the costumes are sumptuous and the seduction undoubtedly scorching!

This stunningly colourful looking film is about an extremely interesting, but relatively little known peer from the early 20th Century, Henry Paget, 5th Marquess of Anglesey - you may in fact know his family country seat better, Plas Newydd in Anglesey.
Often referred to as flamboyant, he squandered the family fortune on his lavish lifestyle, but it will ultimately be interesting to see if they portray him as vacuously excessive, deeply troubled, misunderstood, someone ahead of their time, or tragically human and a combination of all these facets.
We cannot wait to watch!
In cinemas from 5th June

We absolutely love a versatile garment which will see us from the summer season to party season - and the Rosie wrap skirt will do just that!
Made from luxuriously soft stretch silk, this skirt can be paired with the matching Emily short sleeve blouse, or with your favourite white tee for effortlessly elegant but casual styling - perfect for picnics in the park, holiday excursions, eating strawberries and cream at Wimbledon, or an informal summer lunch with friends.
