Spring
After our winter hibernation we are back and we are utterly loving that spring is finally in the air!
Isn't it lovely to finally see daffodils blooming on the roadside and soon it will be bluebells in the hedgerows, and wild garlic will be scenting the air and ready to be foraged. So let us celebrate all things spring - as the sun is out, the windows are open, and it's finally warming up enough to consider a tea, or a G&T, outdoors.
Rest, Read, Relax
A recommendation here from Guinea HQ, if you are after a thought-provoking read, set against a backdrop of Iran's political turmoil of the 1950s-1980s The Lion Women of Tehran by Marjan Kamali, is the spring read for you!
This novel explores subjects which are as relevant now, as they were then, as we follow the lives of our two main female characters, who are friends, as they grow up in this patriarchal culture, where tradition and new ideas clash.
Prepare to be drawn into this engaging read.
Seasonally Scrummy
One of the first fresh fruits of spring is rhubarb and there is nothing nicer than this zingly tart fruit, in a crumble, but now is the time we start to transition from the stodgy, rib sticking desserts of winter, to lighter, refreshing desserts perfect for warmer weather.
So if you are looking for something lighter, or you aren't a dessert person, but love a cake to offer guests, a rhubarb cake is a fabulous seasonal bake - as you will undoubtedly be offered stalks of this leafy fruit at some point - as growers to tend to get inundated!
This Easy Rhubarb Cake from BBC Food is an all-in-one method, is super simple to make, and has the delicious edition of ground almonds.
Guinea's Must See, Must Do
Guinea Confidential's must see exhibition recommendation for Spring has got to be Queen Elizabeth II: Her Life in Style
On display in The King's Gallery, Buckingham Palace, this exhibition will feature clothing worn by the late monarch throughout her life time - including some from such momentous occasions as her wedding, and coronation, as well as her 'off-duty style'.
Running from 10th April - 18th October 2026, this is an incredible opportunity to get up close to a these remarkable garments, which were chosen throughout her life with care and designed with intention to create impact from a distance, as well as in person.
Popcorn Picks
One of the most anticipated films of the year must be The Devil Wears Prada 2 - Released in cinemas 1st May (UK) - we are anticipating cutting looks, lethal put downs and most of all fashion galore.
It would make a wonderful reason for a get together with a fashionista friend for a leisurely lunch followed by the movie, or girls night out with cocktails.

Another long awaited return to the screens, though this time for streaming, is the highly addictive, utter romp of a series, Rivals.
If you enjoyed series 1, we are hoping for more of the same with its return. Series 2 airs on Disney+ 15th May, so why not settle in for the evening with a glass of crisp chardonnay, a slice of quiche Lorraine, or a indulgent portion of tiramisu!
Social Shout Out
Spring is synonymous with cleaning - whether that is airing out the house, chasing away the cobwebs, or having a bit of a revamp with the soft furnishings - replacing the heavy winter curtains, with something more light weight, which allows the sun to gently intrude on sleep in the morning.
All this to say, Spring is about refreshing the home, after months of what can feel like stagnation, so whether you are wanting to reinvigorate the familiar, or make a return to the traditional, we can think of no better social to follow than @lavenderandlovage
Not only is it extremely aesthetic and aspirational, it also has a delightful companion blog, full of traditional recipes, that feel both comforting and nostalgic, as well as travel segment
Well worth the time of following, scrolling through and scribbling down some recipes to try! There is even a book available to buy, by the founder of Lavender & Lovage, Kate Burns-Booth.
