Guinea's Monthly Lifestyle Blog
September
Is it just us or has summer whizzed by in a flash?
How is it already time for the children to be back at school, and with teenagers heading off to uni, and all those summer plans drifting into the summer air until next year, it's upwards and onwards to a new season.
So while you might be feeling life is suddenly a little hectic, there is plenty to look forward to, and let this month's Guinea Confidential give you some ideas of how to easy into the start of cosy season.
Rest, Read, Relax
September is the time of year where our reading habits change, from ravenously consuming the summer bestseller beach read, to curling up with a cosy book, and we can't think of a more perfect book for this time of year when change is in the air, than Evergreen by Lydia Millen.
Emma, our most voracious reader on the Guinea team, loves a seasonal themed book and said this is warm hug of a book!
From an honest, poignant and personal introduction, each season, accompanied with beautiful prose, explores how we can experience them with self reflection; that as intimidating as change can be, it is in fact an opportunity to evolve and grow.
With a sprinkling of recipes and even what perfume may suit the season, this is a gentle read filled with an over riding message of being kind to yourself, and what's not to love about that!
Seasonally Scrummy
September can be a tricky time of year for seasonal eating; as you can be overwhelmed with a glut from the garden, the veg patch can have been picked clean, or your freezer and pantry can be fit to burst trying to preserve as much as you can!
It's also a busy time of year and with potentially still warm days ahead, and not quite ready for the hearty, heavy meals of autumn, it can be difficult to know what to eat.
This recipe from The Delicious Life for Fig Ricotta Toast with Honey, Balsamic, and Pistachios not only utilises figs which are at their best this time of year, but it is quick and simple to prepare, yet is a light eat with comforting substance to it.

Guinea's Must See, Must Do
Did you know that Kew Gardens is exhibiting some stunning floral mannequin displays from Fleurs de Villes to tie in with the release of the premiere of the final Downton Abbey Film?
Running for an extremely limited time, from 22nd September to 1st October, these magnificent sculptures of flowers will undoubtedly be a sight to behold.
Popcorn Picks
Here at Guinea HQ we are huge Downton Abbey fans, we have been since the very first episode aired, and part of that love stems from the costumes - aren't they just fabulous? And they should be particularly spectacular in this final film as we enter the 1930's
Not much yet is known about the plot but we can only hope that it is a fitting end for such a magnificent series!
Downton Abbey The Grand Finale is in cinemas from 12th September and if you've not seen the trailer, watch it here.

We are so excited about our new Serena Cape. It's such a flattering style, which cinches in the waist, and skims the body to create a beautiful silhouette.
Now nothing is more classic than a navy and black combo.
Styled here as a classic minimalist look, which is super chic, don't be afraid to mixture textiles and textures - bland and boring is a no no, simple and sophisticated is timeless!
Keep it cohesive by coordinating with the gold accent buttons.
