Guinea Confidential: November

Guinea's Monthly Lifestyle Blog

November

The nights have well and truly set in, the party season is not yet in full swing, and this month can feel rather like an unsettled lull before the festive season kicks in.

This month however is the perfect opportunity to pamper yourself before the whirlwind of shopping, present buying, drinks parties and festivities and with 13th November being World Kindness Day, it encourages you to be kind to yourself- whether that be your health, general wellbeing or the environment.

So grab a few minutes of self care to sit back, relax and read this months Guinea Confidential.

Rest, Read, Relax

The dark winter days and nights can be a real struggle for some of us, which is why we need to be extra kind to ourselves. What works for someone else, might not work for you, so it's always best to be open to new suggestions, which is why several of our team are intrigued by the looks of this book, Self-Care for Winter by Suzy Reading.

"Self-care expert Suzy Reading has devised 7 steps to not only survive the winter months but to thrive in them. By embracing the lessons from the natural world - from regulating light activity to warming body movements - you will learn how to alter your daily rhythms so that you can embrace winter."

While all 7 steps may not suit everyone, even if a couple help us get through the natural urge to hibernate this season, then it will have been well worth the read.

Saint Andrew's day is the 30th November, so if you are not attending a cèilidh, Guinea Confidential encourages you to try a traditional Scottish dish, such as Cullen Skink. This is a delicious soup made with smoked fish and is commonly eaten on this day.

Not a fan of fish? Why not check out these alternative Scottish-inspired recipes from Dairy Diary.

The 1973 version of The Day of the Jackal starring Edward Fox is one of Emma, in our admin team, favourite films.

Full of suspense, twists and turns this adaptation of the political thriller novel, of the same name by Frederick Forsyth, is an absolute classic, however this month there is a new adaptation being released, starring Eddie Redmayne.

This new reimagining is released on 7th November, as a 10 part series, updated to a contemporary setting.

Will the brilliant nuances of the original have been lost or will this be an exciting reinvention? The Guinea Confidential team will just have to watch and find out.

Tip, Tap, Get That App

Continuing on the theme of being kind to yourself in the winter months, is this app recommendation from several of the Guinea Confidential team.

Headspeace is an app which can aid you in sleep, focus and mindfulness. So whether you have anxiety, stress or struggle to sleep, these guided meditations or sleep stories can aid you in finding some balance and calm.

If you are uncertain about committing to the app, you can also find videos from Headspace on Netflix and Youtube. One of our team swears by the sleep stories and has never discovered what is the in bookshop location beyond a comfy sofa by a fire!

It's all too easy in party season to get caught up in what you are going to wear at the event, and completely neglect what you are going to wear to it, which means you can just end up grabbing the nearest coat!

But this is a missed opportunity to make a real statement and Guinea's Green Velvet Delphi Coat is utterly perfect for making an elegant entrance.

Styled here with a party dress and heels, you can see how the bold use of colour will turn heads and have a real regal impact with it's clean lines and ankle skimming length.
