Guinea Confidential: May

Guinea's Monthly Lifestyle Blog

May

May is the month brimming with bank holidays, which means now is the time to start getting out and about enjoying the fresh air, sunshine and glorious events which are hopefully filling up your social calendar quite nicely.

However, if you enjoy a more sedate pace, now is a fantastic opportunity to get out in the garden, whether to get your hands dirty or to enjoy a cup of tea while you admire the seasonal flora and foliage.

Whatever your preference Guinea Confidential has some fabulous suggestions to see you through the month!

Rest, Read, Relax

It is very unlike us to start a book recommendation with an Instagram tie in, but Emma in our order fulfilment team is a keen gardener and absolutely loves the advice and gardening tips she picks up from Jamie Walton from his Nettles and Petals page.

How is this a book recommendation  you may ask? Well he has recently released his debut book Nettles and Petals: Grow Food. Eat Weeds. Save Seeds. So if you are conscious of growing food and flowers more ecologically, this book would be a brilliant guide on how to start, or to refresh and improve your own gardening style.

Asparagus is now in season!

This utterly delicious vegetable is such a rare treat, as to truly appreciate its flavour it's best eaten during its very limited 8 week season, which traditionally runs from 23rd April (St George's Day) - 21st June (Summer Solstice)

We have several vegetarians and vegans on our lovely Guinea team, and now is their time to shine, as we love nothing better than swapping recipes and trying our new flavour combinations.

There are many tarts and quiche recipes out there, but Asparagus Tart with Honey Mustard Dressing by BBC Food sounds simple and classic and perfect to put together for a quick lunch or informal supper.

Guinea's Must See, Must Do

Guinea Confidential cannot think of a more glamourous exhibition to attend than the stunning Cartier exhibition currently running at the V&A.

Gorgeous gems, showcased in the most sumptuous and stunning of styles, what's not to love and lust after! We were were all rather envious of Judie, Guinea's founder, who managed to see it on a rare day off - rude she didn't bring us back a tiara or two!

Running from 12 April - 16 November 2025

Horse Racing is the "Sport of Kings", but the world of international horse racing can differ greatly from our own British Traditions, which is why it is fascinating to gain an insight behind the scenes from another country and Race for the Crown allows us to do just that.

This documentary by Netflix, which feels more like reality tv, follows the US racing season and gives us an insight into the allure of what draws in the king's of American finance; their motivation, the opportunistic gains, and of course the prestige.

Did you know that all 19 horses in the 2025 151st running of the Kentucky Derby are descendants of the great Secretariat, according to a report by the Louisville Courier Journal

We love a podcast here at Guinea HQ, they are just perfect for popping on during a dog walk, doing the housework, or having some quality me time, and one of our unsung heroes behind the scenes, is our fabulous photographer Matt.

When he isn't busy being amazing on a Guinea photoshoot, or creating his own exhibitions, he is working on his passion project; The Creative Nowhere Land podcast.

Hosted by Matt, who sits down for in-depth interviews with remarkable individuals he has met during the course his career, from 'innovative artists to pioneering entrepreneurs, elite athletes to international performers' they discuss their fascinating journeys giving us a glimpse of their determination, drive and success.

An inspirational listen!
