Guinea's Monthly Lifestyle Blog
May
Here at Guinea HQ, we always feel May is the month which really feels like spring has settled in and summer is on its way.
With Bank Holidays bookending the month, and plenty of national days scattered throughout, May really feels like a holiday month. So whether you like to use your free time to relax, or do activities, the Guinea Confidential has got you covered. So grab a cuppa and a calendar and settle in for a breather and a few minutes stolen me time.
Rest, Read, Relax
At Guinea HQ we adore Judi Dench; National Treasure and star of many of our favourite films, and we were thrilled when we heard she had published a book!
This book promises to be a real yarn of a read, as it spans Dame Judi's many years on the stage and her varied Shakespearean roles, as "she reveals her behind the scenes secrets; inviting us to share in her triumphs, disasters, and backstage shenanigans, all brightened by her mischievous sense of humour and striking honesty."
Shakespeare: The Man Who Pays the Rent by Judi Dench.
Seasonally Scrummy
For this month's recipe pick, we are feeling inspired by World Bee Day: 20th May and National Biscuit Day: 29th May.
So in tribute to bees, which are oh so crucial to our planet, we have chosen a recipe with a honey base, and a hint of lavender - as we all know how much bees love that heavenly scented plant!
This recipe for Lavender Honey Cookies uses a Mary Berry biscuit recipe as its base and was recommended by Sara in our order fulfilment team, who has made them in the past, and loves the delicate floral taste. She also suggests adding a dash of lemon zest for a touch of citrus zing!
Mirror, Mirror
Did you know there is a Sunscreen Awareness Week 6-12 May?
Neither did I!
But looking after your skin is so important - and gone are the days of gloopy white cream which sat heavy on the skin. Jo in our order fulfilment team is a keen runner, so she is all about skin care, but when not wearing out her running shoes and instead wearing makeup, she loves this SPF 50 Primer by Charlotte Tilbury.
Guinea's Must See, Must Do
International Museum Day is 18th May, and Guinea HQ can think of no better exhibition to see that day, than Michelangelo: The Last Decades at the British Museum.
Alongside some of Michelangelo's more well known sketches, are his "grand architectural projects as well as drawings, poems and intimate letters that reveal his personal passions and anxieties. Rather than showing an artist in decline, this exhibition shows the astonishing dynamism that Michelangelo brought to his work in the final decades of his life as he explored salvation and confronted his mortality."
Exhibition runs: 2 May - 28 July 2024

This month we are styling one of our latest Guinea tops!
Hoping for sunny weather, whether at home or abroad, we have teamed our new Cleo cotton top in blue, with our Camden trainers and Leather Leopard print belt.
Equally as stylish with shorts, shown here, or jeans or trousers, the Cleo top is effortlessly elegant and easy to accessorise.
