Guinea Confidential: June

Guinea's Monthly Lifestyle Blog

June

Haven't we had some fabulously sunny weather and we are certainly hoping for more of that, please, at Guinea HQ!

But if there are rainclouds keeping you out of the garden or you have five minutes to scroll while waiting at the school pick up, why not spend them with Guinea Confidential and our recommendations for the month ahead.

Rest, Read, Relax

Here at Guinea HQ we have been hearing all the hype about the film The Salt Path, released back in May, and must admit, we were rather in intrigued about the book from which it was adapted.

The Salt Path  by Raynor Winn is a biographical account of the hardships which led herself and her husband to walk the 630 miles of coast path, which spans through Somerset, Dorset, Devon and Cornwall.

An inspiring yet emotional read added to our ever growing 'to be read' piles.

Seasonally Scrummy

June heralds the beginning of summer and nothing feels more quintessentially summery than fresh berries.

What is more glorious than eating them freshly picked, sometimes with a cheeky sprinkling or sugar, or an indulgent generous splash of cream, however a wonderful way to showcase this seasonal fruit at its finest is by using the ones which are a little too soft in a summer pudding.

This BBC Food recipe from the Hairy Bikers is simplicity itself, using just strawberries, raspberries and a dash of Pimms.

Of course you can use any berries you like, fresh, frozen or a combination of the two. According to our founder, Judie, the key to a great summer pudding is in the weighing it down while it refrigerates overnight.

Guinea's Must See, Must Do

If the Chelsea Flower Show already seems a lifetime ago and you are missing the stunning, sensory delight of floral opulence, Cecil Beaton's Garden Party exhibition may be exactly what you are looking for to fill the void.

Whether you are aware of it or not, you have undoubtedly seen Cecil Beaton's photography of the Royal family or fashion - yes, those incredible iconic looks in My Fair Lady are his design - and this exhibition is a chance to discover how flowers influenced his work.

"Photographs, paintings, drawings, costume and set design will explore the role flowers played in developing Cecil Beaton’s creative practice; from the lavish floral installations he created for parties with flowers from his own gardens, to painted and fresh flowers used as backdrops for fashion photography and royal portraits, to the famous floral costumes in My Fair Lady."

Running at the Garden Museum until Sunday 21st September 2025 we think this is an exhibition not to be missed!

Filled with a cast of familiar faces from costume dramas past and present, Outrageous follows the rise and fall of the real life Mitford Sisters, who scandalised British society during the 1930s.

Vintage clothing combined with a modern production style means this could be a highly watchable and entertaining series!

Available to watch on Britbox 18th June 2025

#Guineaglam

We have absolutely been loving our Lulu shirt dress in our brand new Jaipur print. Such a classic design and oh so easy to wear, as well as being a dream to dress up or down.

For summer it can be styled with a wedge or trainers for a casual look, or add gold accessories for a flash of glam, but as you can see this dress will take you all the way through to autumn, by adding boots and a hat.

It also pairs stunningly well with our Newbury jacket in navy too - so whether you are anticipating rainclouds or looking ahead to the seasons beyond, this is a fabulous combo!
