Guinea's Monthly Lifestyle Blog
September
Hello!
Guinea Confidential is back from our summer break and we hope you've had a wonderful August.
Doesn't the month of August seem to fly by and yet stretch endlessly? It evokes childhood memories of long summer days having adventures with friends or spending time with family - for what could seem like months on end - but September always feels like a month of fresh starts and possibilities.
The days are warm and the evenings crisp and change is in the air, so why not take some time to accustom yourself to this pending change in the seasons and see what recommendations Guinea Confidential has for you this month to pique your interest.
Rest, Read, Relax
This month's Guinea Confidential book recommendation is one the whole office intends to read, which is Less by Patrick Grant - and some of you may be familiar with the name of the author, as he is a judge on The Great British Sewing Bee.
The secondary title sums up the subject of the book brilliantly: Stop Buying So Much Rubbish: How Having Fewer, Better Things Can Make Us Happier.
In a world of fast fashion it is easy to want to refresh your wardrobe constantly, but we are ultimately sacrificing quality for novelty.
And as here at Guinea, our ethos is having pieces which are classic styles which will last you years to come, we feel this author's work will very much a line with our own way of thinking.
And as Emma in our admin team is all about repairing, refreshing or upcycling in all things, she will undoubtedly be the first to read the book and report back.
Seasonally Scrummy
Blackberries should be coming into their prime and Rowan in our order fulfilment team, never misses the opportunity to go foraging with Tupperware box at the ready, on a dog walk.
It's also plum picking season too, and I know of course the most obvious urge is to make wonderfully rib-sticking crumble, however Rowan likes to turn hers into jam, which she can enjoy all autumn and winter long.
She recommends giving this Delicious Plum & Blackberry Preserve by Lakeland a go. She assures us, so long as you don't burn it, even if it's a tad runny, it is still fabulous on yogurt, rice pudding or ice cream.
Guinea's Must See, Must Do
Several of the Guinea Confidential team have been lucky enough to see this delightful exhibition Erdem: Imaginary Conservations at Chatsworth this summer.
Taking inspiration from Duchess Debo, Chatsworth House itself, and Elvis, this collection is well worth a visit - as not only are the costumes sublime but the setting is suitably sumptuous!
Runs until 20th October 2024. Exhibition included in House admittance ticket price.

Starring Nicole Kidman and coming to Netflix on 5th September The Perfect Couple looks like this could a perfect mystery drama series to binge watch on a dismal night with a glass of wine.
Based on the novel by Elin Hilderbrand, the action takes place in affluent Nantucket, and if the trailer lives up to expectations we can expect glitz, glamour and murder from this stylish looking series.

If like us, you are feeling the change in the seasons, we love nothing more than teaming our Ella pink puffer, with everyday casual wear for that extra layer of warmth when there is an unexpected chill in the air, either running errands or on the school run.
It adds a delightful pop of colour on a gloomy day and is super soft and heavenly to the touch!
