Guinea Confidential: August

Guinea's Monthly Lifestyle Blog

August

Now is the time to be making the most of the sunshine and the long warm evenings, even though you may be beginning to feel rather exhausted from holidays, trips out and about, entertaining children and grandchildren who are already claiming to be 'bored', or just a whirl of social events.

There is nothing wrong with slowing down and savouring the summer, stealing time for some solitary reading, enjoying the tranquillity of the garden with a G&T, or simply taking five minutes to yourself to read this month's Guinea Confidential...

Rest, Read, Relax

We have come across this Sunday Times bestseller rather late in the day, as it was published last year, but as several of our Guinea Team have family ties to farming or rural living, we rather thought The Farmer's Wife by Helen Rebanks would be a nice relatable read.

The Guardian says "'The Farmer’s Wife' doubles as an inviting, wholesome and mainly traditional recipe book" which makes it even more appealing, as who doesn't love a good recipe - we can't wait to get reading and cooking!

Seasonally Scrummy

To make the most of seasonal produce sometimes it is best to keep things simple and let the fruit or vegetable shine, which is why we were absolutely delighted to find this recipe which includes pickled blackberries!

This Olive Magazine recipe for Baked brie with pickled blackberries and thyme roasted nuts is simplicity itself and would make a wonderful starter, or a cheese board alternative at an intimate meal for two!

For more information on seasonal food, why not check out this guide by the National Trust.

Mirror, Mirror

At this time of year our skin and hair can really be suffering! The sun, sea and sand of holidays, as well as dehydrating flights, can have taken their toll, the result of which is your summer glow can now be starting to feel just a bit dried out and dull.

Here at Guinea we are all about self-care, so why not treat yourself to an extra long soak in the tub, with a moisturising hair mask and your favourite refreshing face mask.

For a super indulgent experience, why not invest in a holistic silk lavender face pillow and elevate your at home spa days to another level.

Anybody who is a fan of the Richard Osman murder mystery novels, is bound to enjoy this glossy Netflix adaptation of The Thursday Murder Club.

Released appropriately on a Thursday 28th August, we are certain there is no danger of this all-star production of being dowdy, even though it is set in a retirement village, and is bound to be jam packed with dastardly behaviour- or so we hope!

While we are still making the most of this glorious summer, we can't guarantee we won't be caught out be a summer storm or gloomy day, which is why our navy Ottie cable knit jumper is the perfect piece to see you from summer into the autumn!

While it looks fabulous layered with a dress or a crisp white skirt for warm but overcast days, we have styled it here ready for the season ahead.

Fawns and browns make for fabulously neutral wardrobe staple pieces, as they can be styled with just about anything, and depending on the shade, they can still look lovely and summery as you can see here!
