Guinea's Monthly Lifestyle Blog
November
The winter wardrobe is out, the slow cooker is working overtime, and at every opportunity we are having cosy nights in by the fire, so this month we have some fabulous suggestions for you which are all about colour and cosiness.
Plus, we are excited to introduce a new segment to the Guinea Confidential this month, called Social Showcase, so scroll on to learn more about!
Rest, Read, Relax
This month's book was recommended to us by Lottie, in our order fulfilment team, as she is a fan of the TV series Mad Men set in 1960s America and thought she would give this a go, as it is set in the same time period.
The Book Club for Troublesome Women by Marie Bostwick gives us a glimpse of a world, not so long ago, where women needed a husband to get a bank account and to agree to personal medical decisions, all while fighting injustice in education and the workplace - being overlooked despite their qualifications or intelligence, simply because of their gender.
Lottie described it as Stepford Wives rebel!
Seasonally Scrummy
We must say we were intrigued by the sound of the apple and potato bread which the Prince and Princess of Wales made on their recent trip to Long Meadow Cider in Northern Ireland.
And while we couldn't track down the exact recipe they made, this one by Baking Mad sounds absolutely delicious, and gloriously stodgy for autumn.
Served with lashings of cream and lemon curd, this simple dessert is the perfect rib sticker for cold and rainy weather, with ingredients you probably already have in the kitchen.
Guinea's Must See, Must Do
Who doesn't love an exhibition which combines scandalous and tragic history, artwork, lavish clothing and extravagant jewels - and this is exactly what you can expect from the Marie Antoinette Style exhibition at the V&A.
There are personal belongings of this infamous, last Queen of France, as well as 20th century homages to this iconic Royal and era.
Running until Sunday 22nd March 2026, one not to be missed!
Popcorn Picks
Can you tell we love a costume drama at Guinea HQ and this one we have high hopes for!
The Choral, written by Alan Bennett and starring Ralph Finnes, this film is set in 1916 Yorkshire and when the men of an ambitious local choral society volunteer for the front, a group of teenage boys and girls are recruited, and ultimately find joy in singing.
We imagine this is going to be heart-warming but a three hankie watch.
In cinemas from 7th November
Social Showcase
This is a new segment to the Guinea Confidential where we give a shout out to a social media page we are absolutely loving at Guinea HQ!
This month we are showcasing @fromscratchwithbob

Our Lucy dress in navy is everything you could ask for in a dress - classic design, timeless colour, modest but not too modest, perfect for day or evening, a casual lunch, the office or date night ...
Which is how we have styled it here. You might think it is super simple, but it's all too easy to go the fail safe options of pairing navy with white, cream, black, tan or of course blue, but doesn't pink add a wonderful pop of colour? Plus, most of us have a blush coloured neutral shoe and clutch from a wedding, as well as a bit of bling.
So why not let you outfit shine and your accessories sparkle!
