Guinea's Guide to The Goodwood Revival
Founder & Creative Director
It is just two weeks to go until one of Guinea’s most favourite events, the iconic and very British Goodwood Revival. It’s not all about the motoring though, there’s something for everyone, and 2019 marks the 21st Goodwood Revival. So as the Revival comes of age, the focus of the celebrations this year will be 60’s mania…think the Beatles, swinging 60’s and the mini – cars and skirts!!!
- The event runs from Friday 13th - Sun 15th September
- A revival of motorsport from days gone by, with attendees sporting vintage or vintage inspired outfits from the naughty forties, fab fifties and swinging 60's
- Held on The Duke of Richmond's Goodwood Estate in the heart of the South Downs
- The first ever motor race was held in 1948
- Children under 12 go free and children over 12's go half price
What to Expect:
A wonderful array of sights and spectacles from aviation to the main events of classic car racing. Live music, champagne bars, fabulous artisan food stalls, and the chance for a bit of celebrity spotting, the Revival has it all.
The shopping is incredible with hundreds of exhibitors selling everything from lifestyle items, fashion and accessories through to cars themselves.
There are a variety of races throughout each day. Our favourite has got to be the Settrington Cup, which in the past has had the motor racing greats such as Stirling Moss and Murray Walker in the role of Starter. The mini drivers, usually between 6-9 years old, race Austin J40 pedal cars, modelled on the original cars that raced between 1949 – 1966…it’s jolly good fun to watch and may the fastest legs win and no tears before bedtime!
Cutting a dash at the Goodwood Revival is essential when attending this uniquely wonderful and quintessentially British event. There are daily fashion shows and the Goodwood Revival panel of fashion experts chooses those with the best outfits for the ‘Daily Best Dressed’, announced each day at 3pm.
Everyone makes the most incredible effort to dress up, with the quest for authenticity even including vintage prams and pushchairs for the smallest visitors. Check out the Goodwood Revival’s image library for a bit of special inspiration.
The Goodwood Revival celebrates the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s with the swinging 60’s being the key focus for 2019. If your ticket or package includes Paddock Access then chaps require a jacket and tie, while a dress or suit is required for ladies.
Where to stay
Although camping and glamping pitches are sold out for this year, the Goodwood Estate offers electric and non-electric hook up camping for both tents and motorhomes. Luxury glamping options are also available. Each pitch is a spacious 9x7 metres with health club passes available. Check out the Goodwood Revival Camping Guide here
The beauty of the Goodwood Revival is that there are many accommodation options to suit every budget. With its location on the edge of the stunning South Downs, if the campsites are already full you are still handy for Chichester, Arundel and Littlehampton.
Guinea London’s top picks are The Chichester Harbour Hotel & Spa which features a stunning and luxurious subterranean spa, and a superbly stylish seafood restaurant. There is also Bailiffs Court Hotel in Climping West Sussex, where they do a fabulous afternoon tea and have access right onto Climping beach. For anyone taking time out to explore the area, Arties Kitchen in Chichester is a must for tapas…it’s a really super spot, and the pork cheek in port and meatballs are just melt in the mouth amazing.
